Born in 1655, not much is known about the early life of BrownBeard the pirate. Research suggests he may have been born to a merchant father, but why he chose not to inherit his father's business is one of many mysteries surrounding his life. The first confirmed record of BrownBeard details his experiences as a cabin boy on a pirate ship in 1672. He continued to be active during the Golden Age of Piracy, until his mysterious death in 1691. There are a small number of surviving historical records, but they suggest that he was the captain of several ships over those 16 years, including the Red Deceit, the Silent Privateer, and the Rising Tide.
A strange selection of details about this pirate survive: it is well noted that in addition to his signature bushy brown beard and mustache, he had 4 golden teeth and 7 ear piercings. He was fairly merciful, as far as pirates of the time went - over his career, he killed only 27 sailors, mostly members of the royal Navy. When he was drunk, however, as he often was after finishing up to 5 bottles of rum in one evening, he would threaten crew members and go on explosive tirades. His greatest legacy is his hidden treasure - legend suggests he buried a chest containing gold and jewels that could be worth up to $5 million in today's value.
